Five celebrities who made Ireland their second home

We often tell ourselves that when the sun shines, Ireland is the most beautiful place in the world. But we are not the only ones who think so. Many celebrities have made the Emerald Isle their home away from home, and not just when the weather is nice.

From Oscar-winning actors to the people behind TV’s most famous characters, a number of famous people are escaping to Ireland to relax, unwind – and drink a pint of Guinness.

Russell Crowe

Matt Damon’s date in Dolki has been a great source of entertainment for many post-quarantine, as the American actor has made the seaside Dublin village his home for a few months. Now there is another famous face in town.

The property chosen by Damon is owned by ex-Ferrari Formula 1 driver Eddie Irvine and consists of a plunge pool, jacuzzi, sauna and five bedrooms.

The stunning home spans 5,000 square feet and has been the perfect place for Damon and his family during quarantine.

“There are trees, forests, forests and oceans, I can’t think of any other place you’d want to be within 2 kilometers,” the actor said Rotation 1038.

After Matt Damon’s famous work in “Dulkie”, actor and director Russell Crowe has now settled in the same mansion, according to Sunday world.

Crowe is said to have stayed at Dalkey’s house while he was filming his latest film, Papal Exorcist.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker often escapes from New York with her family to their holiday home near Kilcar, Co Donegal.

The home, renovated in 2018, was purchased by her husband Matthew Broderick’s family more than four decades ago. The Donegal village even has a minor GAA tournament called the Broderick Cup, after Broderick’s parents who often supported the local club.

Earlier this week, SJP, Broderick and their children made another visit to Co Donegal and attended a GAA tournament. Locals are known to rarely pester stars for everyday activities like shopping at their local Supervalu.

The family regularly spent Christmas at the holiday home, with SJP describing Donegal as a “lovely place” to spend the holidays.

Jeremy Irons

West Cork is home away from home for Oscar-winning English actor Jeremy Irons. Irons and his wife, Irish actress Sinead Cusack, began the restoration of Kilco Castle between Skibbereen and Ballydegob in 1998. The 15th-century castle took six years to renovate, with Irons and Cusack finally completing the work in 2004.

“Jeremy does not tolerate extravagance,” said his wife Sinead Cusack in an interview with the publication vanity fair in 2017. “I think he saw this castle as a beautiful ruin that needed to be saved.”

“There’s something about the castle that generates an extraordinary energy,” Irons said of the striking terracotta-colored castle in the same interview.

“Everyone stayed up until three or four in the morning – talking, listening to music, drinking. You just want to keep going, keep going. It takes some getting used to this place. Because it somehow produces energy.”

Emily Ratajkowski

Another West Cork supporter, American supermodel and actress Emily Ratajkowski, is rumored to be hiding out in the Bantry area.

The 31-year-old’s parents have lived in the area for many years and have strong ties to the community, with Ratakowski making headlines when she sponsored Bantry Basketball Club last summer.

Both of Ratakowski’s grandmothers are Irish, and during her childhood her family visited Bantry most summers and continue to do so. Ratakowski often calls the city of West Cork his second home.

After posting several photos with her father and one-year-old son at what appears to be their home in West Cork, some believe the supermodel has returned to the area this summer following her split from husband Sebastian Bear-McClard.

Daniel Day-Lewis

Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis is also known for making Ireland his second home. The My left food The actor has a home near the village of Annamo, County Wicklow, where he lives with his wife Rebecca Miller and their children.

Day-Lewis described Wicklow as a place he returns to as a haven to rebuild himself, and has lived there for many years. The Hollywood star has been known to stop at local pubs for a pint of Guinness, but likes to stay out of the way. It was at his local Roundwood Inn that Steven Spielberg convinced him to take on the role Lincolnfor which he won an Oscar.

When he was made Freeman of Wicklow in 2009, Day-Lewis noted that he did not feel the pressure of celebrity when he was in the county because he was “allowed to live”.

“I notice it in other places,” he added.
