Lip makeup is the most beautiful summer makeup trend

Picture the scene: you’re 13 years old on vacation from school for three wonderful months. The sun is shining and you’ve met up with your besties for a bike ride. You all decide to stop at the corner store for a little treat, empty your pockets with a shared pile of loose change, and voila! Just enough for each of you to get a fruit ice cream.

This is the mood that seeks to convey the biggest summer lip trend. The innocence of last summer, a time of complete and total freedom when there were no emails or credit card bills. When your hair was always a little wet from bathing, and your lip color gave off your favorite scent of frieze.

It’s called Popsicle lips, a look consisting of a thin patch, often a bright, fruity shade like strawberry, grape, or tangerine. The application is a little blurry, not too neat around the edges, which makes it extremely low maintenance. Sometimes a light ombre effect appears, when the center of the mouth becomes a little darker. You know how it would be if you ate real fruit ice cream.

This is just the thing if you don’t want to take care of your lipstick all day. (Some small smudges are actually welcome here.) The light wash of pigment also provides a totally convenient way to add a pop of color to your makeup. It’s fun, easy, and absolutely perfect to rock on the patio.

We can all thank Rihanna for helping make Popsicle lips a hit. Fenty Beauty’s Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain, a gorgeous watery shade with a juicy finish, recently went viral on TikTok, resulting in the product selling out. (Marked-up versions have even started to find their way onto eBay.) But don’t worry, we’ve scoured the web for the best knockoffs on the market. Summer isn’t over yet, friends—it’s time for Popsicle lips.
