This data is taken from Productivity and is subject to review. For more information, see “Productivity and Costs – Second Quarter 2022 (Tentative)”. Also check out the charts related to the latest Productivity and Costs news release. Labor productivity, or output per hour, is calculated by dividing the real output index by the hours worked index for all persons, including employees, owners, and unpaid family workers. Labor costs are calculated as the ratio of hourly wages to labor productivity. An increase in hourly wages leads to an increase in labor costs per unit of output, and an increase in productivity leads to a decrease in them.
